Lima (San Gregorio) Peru – Week 9

Hola como están? Todo esta bien aquí! Todo tranquilo! Esta semana era poquito largo. Pero también rápido. [Hello how are you? Everything is fine here! All quiet! This week was a little long. But also fast.] This week my companion and I had a lot of success with our investigators.

Let me start with Richard. He is basically an eternal investigator. He's been an investigator for 2 years..... and he attends church every Sunday. All of his family are members. We had a lesson with him to see where he was at with everything. He was still unsure about baptism and stuff because he comes from a Christian background. His wife shared her testimony with us and we challenged him for baptism. He accepted and a date was set for this Saturday. He has his interview with the district leader in Wednesday!

We also visited the Vasquez family and they're getting everything ready to be married and baptized. So we came up with a plan with them. This Saturday the mom and dad will be baptized. Their kids will be baptized in a couple weeks by their dad. The kids are not ready yet so when told him that he was pretty excited. It'll be a better memory for their kids if their dad baptizes them. So that’s all the news with them! I'll send pics next week to let you see how it goes!

We also have a teenage girl that is progressing to be baptized in a couple weeks. Her grandma and aunts are recent converts and so that is how she came to know about the church. She's been coming to church for a couple weeks now and she's really receptive to the lessons and all! Oh and her name is Hodary.

Today we went on a hike for Pday.

Pictures:

  1. That hill in the picture is where we went up.
  2. That house with the Book of Mormon is the same house on top of the hill. But the sad news is that nobody lives there.
  3. Me at the top of the hill.
  4. Someone from my old area so we took a picture.
  5. Haha…I have to write on my food so people don’t eat it...[If you eat that you will have problems]

Well I hope all is well there and have a great week!

Lima (San Gregorio) Peru – Week 8

Hola buenas tardes amigos! Como están? Porque todo esta bien aquí conmigo! This week was really pretty great! My comp and I worked really hard and all of our lessons were really good. We found some great new investigators and we had some investigators accept a baptismal date. To end the week we had a baptism! So you could say that it was a good week!

First I'll start with the Familia Vasquez! Well there’s some good and bad news with them..... The good is that they are still coming to church and listening to our lessons. The bad news is that Guillermo doesn’t have a job.... and if he can’t find one he'll have to travel out of Lima to find work. If he does this he will come and visit like every 2 or 3 months…and so that means he won't be able to be married and baptized on the 25th. So we're working with him right now to help him find work. There is a plan for everyone. If they don’t get baptized then, it'll happen shortly after. But we're doing everything that we can to help him!

We also have other investigators that have a lot of potential. One is a single mother and a son and they are super great. They will need a lot of help, but I think that we have the help for them. The mother lost a baby after birth and is still really sad about that. The pastor of the church she was previously attending said that because her baby wasn’t baptized that she's going to hell. We've been teaching her the Plan of Salvation to help her understand more. Her son believes more in science than God, but he's starting to understand more about God. We'll see how it goes!

We had the baptism of Julieth. It was super great to be able to participate in that! The spirit was super strong and her testimony at the end was really powerful. Wow there are a million other things that I can write about. All of the miracles and tender mercies that I've seen in my life! Most of the time words can’t describe what I’ve seen ad felt. It’s amazing! Thanks for all of your prayers and support! Thank you for everything!

Lima (San Gregorio) Peru – Week 7

¡Hola! ¿Como estan? Well this last week we had transfers! I now have a new companion and he's even shorter than my last companion. He's really short and skinny! Haha he's pretty interesting. I keep finding out new things out about him every day! He has 17 months in the mission and so he's basically on his way downhill to go home. He's not as "trunky" as my last companion, but he's thinking about home... But let’s see if I can change that! Oh and he's from Piora, Peru. So yeah that’s my new comp. The hard thing with new companions is learning how to work and get along with them, and adjusting them to the new area and the investigators. Also knowing the personalities of them.

The Vasquez Family is still attending church and are progressing! They’ve almost had all of the lessons and we're helping them with their wedding papers so everything will be all ready for the 25 of March! It's so amazing to watch them progress and learn. At first they didn't understand somethings, but it’s all starting to make sense to them! They are one of those families that will probably be sealed in the temple one year from their baptism date! Because they learn about it and say, “We need to do that so we can be happier and help out our family!” I'm supppper blessed that I have the opportunity to work with them! I'll keep you updated on them!

This Saturday I have a baptism! It was supposed to be for this past week but she was sick.... But it'll happen this week! I'll send pictures! The pictures I sent this week are of a sweet sunset, my new comp and I and a huge spider we found in our house! Hope you enjoy!!!! Well I hope all is well there and have an amazing week!
BYE! I love you all!!

Lima (San Gregorio) Peru – Week 6

Hey friends and family!!! How are all of you??? I hope all of well there! I can’t believe that transfers are here. It feels like just yesterday that I started in this area, but it was already 6 weeks ago! The time disappeared..... It’s crazy how fast time flies!!! This week was good! We had water consistently throughout the week! So that’s good news! Thank you for all of your prayers!(: Well we had some more good lessons with my family! Their baptism and wedding is all set for the 25 of March! I’m super excited for that! It’s so cool to see how people change from the first visit to the current one. This family has changed so much! And they're continuing to change! It’s so great to be able to participate in the process! We also found another family this past week! We'll see how the lesson goes tomorrow! They are really great too! And if they do their commitments they'll be able to progress too! We have a baptism this weekend! So that’s super exciting! One thing that has been really well for my comp and I here is contacting the families that have part members. And so there more receptive to the gospel. And most of our investigators are this type or references from members. It’s been great! I'm really grateful that I get one transfer more here. Ok so the picture I sent is from after lunch. I found a little food stand thingy that was selling ice cream cones from McDonalds. Let’s just say that it was suppppppper good! The first soft serve Ice-cream that I've had in a long time! Haha and now I want another! Well I hope you have a great week! I love you all!! audios, nos vemos!

Lima (San Gregorio) Peru – Week 5

Hola! Como están?? Porque todo esta bien aquí! It’s still hot and I don’t have water in my house again! So we get water Wednesday in the morning and it goes away Saturday in the morning..... Haha and it’s been like that every week for 4 weeks. Haha it’s just great. So my shower is typically with a tub of water the we brought up from the first floor. They always have water for some reason, and then I use a tupperwear to pour water over me.... Haha it’s great! I think I always want to shower like this! Haha joking... I need to pray harder for water......

Well, some good news with my family that we're teaching! All of them went to church yesterday for the 3 hours! We also had a lesson with a married couple in our ward and it was great. We had them talk about the blessings that come through raising your family in the gospel and the blessings of being able to be sealed in the temple. The husband said something amazing, “I know that I need to get married and be baptized, but not because I feel like I need to, I want to." So we put a date for them to be married and baptized on the 25 of March and they said yes! So that was really exciting for my companion and me! I'll keep you updating on the details!! (:

Haha I finally took a picture with my comp! I look like a giant next to him! But yeah that’s us, the missionaries of San Gregorio I. And the other pic is of my zone from today. Well all is good here, except the fact we don’t have water, and I hope all is well there! Wow I can't believe that it is almost March! It’s crazy! Time flies by! This is the last week of the transfer! It flew by! Well I'll talk to you next week!

Lima (San Gregorio) Peru – Week 4

Hola! How are you? Woah this week has flown by. Haha just like all the other weeks! I can’t even describe how fast the time flies! Well this week had some great things happen!

We had some more lessons with our "familia de oro (familia Vasquez) ." They are seriously great! We taught them Lesson 1, the Restoration and it went really well! They were really receptive of it. Then the next time we finished the lesson and talked about the Book of Mormon. It was great! The spirit was definitely there! He said that he thinks it’s true from everything that we taught him about it. He now wants to read it to know what it says! He's a little harder to teach than his family because he's a little more critical about what we say. As of right now they all are progressing and are super great!

Here is a little poem or quote or something that I wanted to share with you all. Our Mission President’s wife shared it with us and I love it.

Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. (Unknown)

I love this because it’s so true. This peace is something that we can find through the loving sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Through His Atonement we can find the peace in our lives. We just need to show our faith through our actions and desires and we will be able to attain this peace.

Well that’s all for this week. Haha and the one picture that I have is from just a couple minutes ago. Haha because I forgot to take one earlier in the week. If I didn’t attach one, my mom would probably have a heart attack. Haha love you all and have a great week!

Lima (San Gregorio) Peru – Week 3

Hola Hola mis amigos! Como Estan? All is good here! It’s just getting hotter and I just keep sweating more.... Haha it’s just great! Especially when your house doesn't have water for 4 days..... So if you have some free time, please pray so I can have water to shower! (; Haha the shower I've been having is walking down to the first floor and filling up a bucket and carrying it to the third floor and then just dumping water on me. Apply soap. Dump more water. Haha it’s so dumb... The first and second floors have water, but the third doesn't...... I blame it on the lady on the second floor who does laundry literally 24/7..... and so there is no pressure to make it to the third floor... Yeah welcome to Peru. (:

We recently found a new family! A complete family! Its great there’s a mom, dad, and three kids! And they came to church on the first Sunday that we invited them! They're very interested! This is the first time that I've taught a complete family and that they're interested! So I'll keep you updated on them!

Haha. . .here are some pics of my comp in his true nature! Haha! Him eating Cheetos! Haha always he tells me “Elder, I need to lose weight. Then the next morning he does like 3 push-ups. Eats candy or some Cheetos. “Elder why am I not losing weight?" Haha he's pretty funny! And we're getting a lot of work done!

The other pic is me in a barber shop because one of our investigators owns one. I’m sitting on is a seat for kids to get their hair cut and the hat is my comps! Haha it’s just funny! Oh and for Pday today we played board games. But I lost...... So yeah... :( We went to the temple today and that’s the last pic!

Well that’s about all for this week! Have a great one and I love you all! (:
